Awake

A wobbly baby blinks her eyes
amid blankets and binky
wild clover
on bed sheets.
Air so soft it breezes
through sheer curtains
ruffling,
after a sound sleep with
sucking fingers and
a humming fan.
I think she hears
me coming down the hall
to greet her.
Pushing up on chubby thighs
in anticipation of a door
swinging open and love
tenderly
lifting her weight in milk
and yeasty rolls out of
the crib.
